South Africa the meaning of the flag 

The current national flag of South Africa includes a green horizontal facing Y, with the top on the hoist side. The triangle between the Y and the hoist side of the flag is black in colour, with a yellow border. The rest of the Y has a white border, the top remaining portion of the flag is red in colour and the bottom is blue. It has been stated that there is no official symbolism for any of the colours on the flag, although they all have an implied meaning. The inclusion of the Y was designed to represent the convergence of everything that makes South Africa, South Africa, including its people, its history and its future. The colours red, white and blue represent the European colonists and the Boer republics. The African National Congress is portrayed through the black, green and yellow. It is also believed that blue symbolises the sky and opportunity and white represents peace between Europeans and the native African people. Green depicts the nation's fertile land and red is representative of the struggle for independence. Black portrays the native African people and yellow symbolises the wealth of South Africa. This flag was adopted as the national flag of South Africa on the 27^th of April 1994.
