Tunisia National Flag

The national flag of Tunisia was adopted in 1999, after minor changes to the crescent moon. However, the design has been used as Tunisia’s national flag since 1931. The flag features many symbols associated with the Islam religion. This includes the crescent and the five-point star, with the colours also symbolistic of the Islamic religion, which is the primary religion of Tunisia. The red crescent represents the Islamic religion and demonstrates unity between all Muslims. The star is also an important Islamic symbol, symbolising the Five Pillars of Islam: faith, prayer, charity, fasting, and the pilgrimage to Mecca. The white disk in the centre of the flag represents both peace and the sun. Finally, the primary colour of the flag, red, is said to be symbolistic of the blood shed by Tunisians fighting for the country.

Tunisia is a nation located in Northern Africa, with the coastlines of Tunisia, running along the Mediterranean Sea. Southeast of Tunisia is the nation of Libya and to the west and southwest Algeria. Its location makes Tunisia the northernmost country on the continent of Africa. Tunisia is approximately 155,360km² and is home to around 12.3 million people, with most speaking the Tunisian Arabic dialect. However, the official language of Tunisia is Arabic. The nation of Tunisia gained independence in 1956, and the capital of Tunisia Tunis can be found along the Mediterranean coast. The dry and arid environment of much of Tunisia, resulted in several scenes being filmed for the Star Wars film series.
