Saint Kitts and The Nevis Flag

The national flag of Saint Kitts and Nevis includes two triangles of different colours separated by a black stripe, bordered by two yellow stripes. This black stripe features two white five-point stars, which represent hope and liberty. The black stripe is representative of the African heritage of its people, and the yellow borders symbolise the sunshine that illuminates the island. The upper green triangle symbolises the fertility of the islands of Saint Kitts and Nevis, while the lower red triangle represents the fight against slavery and colonialism. The flag of Saint Kitts and Nevis was designed by Edrice Lewis and was adopted as the national flag on the 19^th of September 1983.

The nation is composed of two islands, one of Saint Kitts and the other of Nevis, which are located in the Caribbean Sea and are a part of the group of islands known as the Lesser Antilles. The islands make up an area of roughly 269km² with around 47,000 people living on the islands of Saint Kitts and Nevis. There is a large amount of the population which speak Saint Kitts Creole; however, English is the official language of the nation. The capital is Basseterre, which is located on the island of Saint Kitts. The island of Nevis is famous for being the birthplace of Alexander Hamilton, who was an American founding father, which the famous musical Hamilton is based on. The two islands are home to the national bird the brown pelican and invasive green monkeys, which were introduced from Africa by the French in the 17^th century.
