The national flag of Niger features three horizontal bands, with a central orange circle. The orange circle is said to represent the sun that shines on the land of Niger. The top stripe, which is orange in colour, depicts the Sahara Desert, which covers the northern region of the nation. The central white band is symbolistic of the people’s purity. Meanwhile, the bottom green stripe portrays the fertile land, prominent throughout the southern areas of Niger. This flag was officially adopted on the 23^rd of November 1959.

Niger is a landlocked African nation, located in the western region of the African continent. It is surrounded by Algeria and Libya to the north, Chad to the east, Nigeria and Benin to the south and Burkina Faso and Mali to the east. It is 1,267,000km² in area, with more than two-thirds of this being made up of by the Sahara Desert, with most of the population living in the southern regions of the nation due to the northern parts being incredibly arid. The capital city is Niamey, and the official language is Hausa, which replaced French in 2025. The population of around 28.8 million people is primarily a result of the world’s highest birth rate, with an average of around 6-7 children per woman. Additionally, Niger is one of the poorest countries in the world, with much of the population living in poverty and depending on agriculture to support their families, making it difficult when droughts are common and poor soil quality makes it hard to farm.
