Nepal National Flag Part One

The Meaning of the Nepal Flag

The current edition of the Nepali flag was adopted on the 16th of December 1962, after removing faces that were originally on the moon and sun. Nepal’s national flag is unique in that it is the only country flag, which is non-quadrilateral, with it instead being composed of two right-angle triangles of varying sizes, with one on top of the other. These triangles have two fitting meanings, representing the major religions of Nepal, Buddhism and Hinduism, as well as the Himalayan Mountains. The entire flag is surrounded by a dark blue border, which represents the peace and harmony of the nation and its people. Most of the flag is crimson red in colour and is symbolistic of the strength and bravery of Nepalese people, fittingly it is also the national colour of Nepal. The flag features two symbols, the moon in the top triangle and the sun in the bottom, which are both white in colour and represent the nation's longevity. The moon depicts the calmness of Nepalese people and the cool weather of the Himalayas. Meanwhile, the sun represents the warmer temperatures of the lower parts of Nepal.
