The national flag of Montenegro is primarily red, with a gold border. Also featured in the flag is a two-headed eagle, the coat of arms, a crown and a sceptre and a blue orb in each claw of the eagle. Additionally, there are numerous crosses on the flag, representing the nation’s connection to the religion of Christianity. The red portrays the blood lost in their quest for independence and the gold represents the royal heritage of the country. The double-headed eagle is also representative of the nation’s connection to the church of Christianity. The shield in front of the eagle is the national coat of arms, which also features the lion of Judah, symbolises the strength of Montenegro and its people. The crown that sits atop the eagle's two heads, also represents the regal past of the nation. Finally, the objects that the eagle is holding depict strength and royalty. This edition of the flag was adopted on the 3^rd of June 2004.

The largest and deepest canyon in Europe can also be found in Montenegro; the Tara Canyon is 1,300 metres deep and 78 kilometres long. The capital city of Montenegro is Podgorica.
