Central African Republic Flag - Table Flag

National Flag Central African Republic

The national flag of the Central African Republic was adopted on the 1st of December 1958, following the nation’s gaining of independence from France. The flag was designed by the prime minister at the time Barthélemy Boganda. The flag was primarily designed as a combination between the colours of the French flag and the traditional pan-African colours, representing the importance of embracing colonial history and remaining united with its colonisers. This is portrayed through four horizontal bands, which are blue, white, green and yellow, from top to bottom. As well as a central red vertical stripe. Other than being the French and pan-African colours, they also have additional meanings, with the red symbolising the blood that is shared between all of humankind. Blue portrays freedom and the sky, and white depicts purity. The colours of green and yellow symbolise the lush rainforests and dry savannah’s that cover the nation, respectively. Finally, the small yellow five-point star in the top left corner of the flag depicts the unity between its people and their desire for the nation’s progress.

Central African Republic is a landlocked African nation located in the central region of the continent.
