EUREKA FLAG - Flag of the Southern Cross
The Eureka flag, known as the "Flag of the Southern Cross" was first raised on Bakery Hill, Ballarat on 29th November 1854.
The flag was flown at the Eureka stockade and flew there before and during the battle that took place between miners and Government forces on Sunday 3rd December 1854.
The Eureka flag has become symbolic of democratic rights and freedom endearing it to many Australians. The Eureka flag is identified as a flag of the people.
